Transfiguration Sunday

The Low Whisper that Brings Mercy, 1 Kings 19:9-18, Mark 9:2-8

What does Elijah meeting the Lord at Mt. Sinai and Jesus’ transfiguration have in common? Why is it important that the Lord isn’t in the wind, the earthquake, the fire? Why is it a low whisper? Father Jeremiah reflects on these questions

Brought into His Presence for Salvation, Matthew 17:1-9

What does it mean that Jesus was transfigured? How does this affect our understanding of Jesus? What does Jesus’ work have to do with our being able to enter into his presence? These questions give rise to much in Father Jeremiah’s sermon on Jesus’ transfiguration.

The Transfiguration and Us, Luke 9:28-36

There are so many layers to the Transfiguration that it is hard to comprehend how glorious it really was. Many aspects of it are recalling various events in the Old Testament, especially the cloud overshadowing them out of which God the Father speaks. All of this is to direct our eyes to Jesus alone so that we will know the reality fo salvation in our lives.

A Tale of Two Mountains, 1 Kings 19.9-18, Mark 9.2-9

Elijah went up on a mountain to meet Yahweh, where he found the voice of God in a thin whisper. Peter, James, and John went up a mountain with Jesus and witnessed something beyond imagining. When all was done, though, what were they left with? Was it only the experience or something greater than any experience to be known this side of eternity?

In Jesus’ transfiguration we are given a glimpse of the salvation that he is bringing to us through his death and resurrection. Because of this glimpse our eyes are to be drawn to Jesus only, to look upon he who has been pierced for us and to find the whole of our salvation through him. Listen now to hear more from Father Jeremiah

Jesus Revealed: Transfiguration and Tabernacles, Luke 9.28-36

Armadio_degli_argenti,_trasfigurazione.jpg

When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain before Peter, James, and John, Peter suggested building tabernacles for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. Was he merely trying to delay their departure from the mountain, or is there something revealed here about Jesus being the true tabernacle through whom we draw near to God? Listen to find out the answer!
