Good Friday

Sin Undone by God Becoming Man, Philippians 2:5-11

What is so unique about Jesus’ death upon the cross? What makes this man’s death so important to all of history? St. Paul gives us a glimpse of this reality when he speaks of Jesus being in the form of God and yet taking on the likeness of man. We come to realize that Jesus is no ordinary man dying upon the cross, but God in the flesh dealing with our sin. And thus, Christmas and Good Friday come together for us on this Palm Sunday.

Covenant Faithfulness Makes Us God's People, Psalm 40, Hebrews 10, John 18-19

The Death of Jesus was a fulfilling of God the Father’s covenant faithfulness. He had promised Abraham that all the people’s of the earth would be blessed through him and it is through Jesus’ death that that blessing comes. God completes his promise and we are given the gift of life as God’s people.

Death that Leads to Life, John 18-19

Jesus’ death is more than just the death of a single man. It is the death at the center of all creation that was walked into by Jesus. He knew fully what was in store for him and willingly accepted that he would be the sacrifice for us all. We continue to come back to this truth because it is foundational to us as Christians.
